Let it begin
Today was the first day of the next several years of my life. This was the first class of the first course for the PhD program. I can no longer use the ‘Pre-Phd’ category. I’m in it now. After the first day, I’ve come to realize the uniqueness of ‘where I come from’ after participating in this reflective activity in class. This was framed within an Indigenous context with a focus on the 2C – community and culture, and a 2L – language and land as a way to orient our cohort into the program. Listening to the variety of stories where diverse cultures and languages are spoken, both near and far makes me realize the ordinariness of speaking one language and living within a privileged culture. As we shared our land stories, it became evident how we are each shaped by the land we call home, the space on this earth were we are geo-located and grounded. With the variety of
