One click – I’m IN
It’s done. The offer of admission letter came yesterday. Today I’ve returned the letter with the internet banking transfer for the required deposit. With one click [SEND] and it’s done! What have I done?
I’m thinking of all the people I need to talk to as I get this thing started!
I’m thinking of all the work I need to do in order to even be ready for this PhD thing!
I’m looking at all the articles and readings I’ve been collecting, bookmarks I’ve been saving, references I’ve been collecting.
I’m wondering why I want to do this thing? What’s in it for me? Is it just the three letters I might be able to put at the end of my name? There’s more to it than that!
I’m adding my voice to the global collective, sharing my observations and insights to deepen my own thinking and growing as I go. But it’s not just about ME is it? There’s more to this than just my efforts.
I’m going back to the two beliefs I’ve held in my teaching practice and my personal life. It’s about conversations and relationships. That’s what’s in it for me. New, exciting and deep conversations about cognition and learning. New and enriching relationships with folks around the globe. It’s a chance to enact change in contexts I may not even know yet – through the UNESCO global sustainable development goals. It’s an opportunity to support the learning of others in contexts and countries where I may not have current connections – perhaps Cambodia.
That’s what’s in it for me! There’s purpose and passion in this process beyond ME and this PhD!
