More from others
I’m continuing to dig into the open and reflective PhD process blogs from others that have taken the journey I’m about to traverse. Yesterday it was Lisa Hammershaimb, Laura Gogia, and Catherine Cronin. Today it’s Bonnie Stewart. There are so many more, and I continue to learn from their experiences. Another connection from Bonnie’s blog posts is the #SoNAR – the Society for Open Narrative Research. Bonnie shares presentation notes in Slideshare in LinkedIn.
Bonnie writes about opening her dissertation [Opening the dissertation: Why we need to make open the default]. She shares some insights into the opening up of the dissertation process and the defence ‘event’ to open and public audiences. She shares Laura Gogia’s graphic and blog post [Granularities of the open dissertation] where decision points are outlined. Bonnie conducted her defence in a live streamed and recorded video, and Laura invited two people into her defence event to live tweet as it was happening.
I have downloaded a copy of Bonnie’s dissertation, Her article, published in IRRODL, titled In abundance: Networked participatory practices as scholarship is a result of the dissertation. Deeper thoughts about the opening of the dissertation process is captured here, with a panel discussion that resulted from this provocation.
There is more to read in Bonnie’s blog – I’ll continue to dip in and discover as I walk toward my PhD. This is just the warming up phase, after all!
