Continuing connections
I’ve been following Catherine Cronin and Lisa Hammershaimb closely these past days as they approach their dissertation defence. I’ve noticed others who are also at that phase or completing their dissertations, particularly some that are in my particular institution.
Catherine shared some valuable resources
- PhD Viva Guide from NUI Galway
- Inge de Waard blog post Tips for a PhD defense or viva
Lisa has been blogging about her preparation for her dissertation defence and I’ve been adding comments to her blog posts. This week she shared a preparatory recording of her defence presentation [Countdown to convocation: day 21]. What a great idea!
From there I came across a new connection – linked from Catherine’s twitter stream.

Lucy Atkins is a UK ed tech researcher who has just received her PhD. Her tweet caught my attention because of the digital literacy connection.

This led to the #digilitphd stream where I found her blog link.

Her blog reveals the process and work in the area of professional development strategies on the development of digital literacies [About my thesis]. After reading her post about Social Media and the PhD, I’ve received a gift of more connections.
And finally, I came across this article Constellations of Practice through a tweet from Frances Bell. This particularly caught my attention because of the rhizome reference.
So many opportunities in serendipity explorations today.
